Subject: Iago diagnosed with Antisocial Personality Disorder

The purpose of this memo is to provide evidence to the prosecutors that Iago has Antisocial Personality Disorder. This memo contains examples and explanations of how Iago exhibits this disorder and how this affects his actions. This diagnosis should help the prosecution convict Iago for the charges against him.

Examples of how Iago exhibits Antisocial Personality Disorder:

The three guidelines for this disorder that Iago fits are deceitfulness, failure to plan ahead or impulsive, or lack of remorse by rationalizing hurting or mistreating some one.

Deceitfulness, As indicated by reapeated lying or conning for pleasure or profit.
  • Iago speaks to himself that," I hate the Moor...[and] after some time , to the abuses Othello's ear that he [Cassio] is too familiar with his wife".
  • This quote made by Iago demonstrates his ability to lie and spread rumors and to hurt Othello without caring or thinking about the effect of the rumors would be.

Impulsive, Failure to Plan Ahead
  • When Iago sits down and brainstorms how he is going to destroy Othello by jealousy, but not the individual details.
  • This shows that Iago exhibits cunning and evil behavior, because he is able to plot in just a short period of time before he puts his plan in action, and have is his wicked plans be executed so well and with such a destructive effect.

Lack of Remorse, as indicated by being indifferent or rationalizing having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another.
  • Another example of how Iago exemplifies Antisocial Personality Disorder is when he laughs maniacally when plotting the downfall of Othello.
  • His laughter confirm his lack of remorse because it shows how he can find a the situation funny when planning what he is going to do and what he has done (getting Cassio fired, ruining Desdemona's virtue, driving Othello mad).

Because of this evidence of Iago being diagnosed with Antisocial Personality Disorder, if he is convicted I recommend that he be sentenced to solitary confinement in prison. I recommend this because as demonstrated byt he following examples Iago is capable of lying to get what he want in order to achieve his goals. If Iago was put in solitary confinement he would not be able to manipulate anybody or a group of people that could possibly cause trouble for the prison.
