My intrepretation of “My mama always said, life was like a box a chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.” is that even thought the box of chocolates, which is life, had all similar looking chocolates, but the inside of each chocolate is different and that is where, "you never know what you're gonna get". Life is not predictable, nobody would be able to predict whats on the inside of the chocolate. The background information represents a calm and serene, which could represent that Forrest has bitten into a good chocolate. There is symbolism between Forest's dirty shoes and that he has been many places and had many experiences. The way Forest talks and says the quote shows that he has a simplistic mind and is openely friendly, and because of his mother's quote for is nice to everyone because "you never know what you're going to get".
